Title Market Driven Trends in Reliability and Maintainability for Business Aviation Propulsion Engines
Author Vincent A. Peyote
Biblio 2002; 18 Pages; Soft Cover
Description This SAE Special Publication presents the Cliff Garrett Turbomachinery Engineering Award Lecture, which was given during the 2002 Power Systems Conference, October 23, 2002 in Coral Springs, Florida, USA. Jet-powered business aviation aircraft were introduced in 1964. The utilization rate of these early aircraft was less than 200 hours per year. The size, range, sophistication, and utilization rate of today's aircraft is currently approaching 1,000 hours per year for charter and fractional ownership aircraft. This increased utilization is requiring higher dispatch reliability and leaves less time available to perform maintenance. This paper reviews improvements in dispatch reliability and maintainability for this class of propulsion engines and summarizes the current state of maturity.
